THE PORTRAIT MASTERY SERIES. NOW LIVE!
THE PORTRAIT MASTERY SERIES.
NOW LIVE.
Join award-winning photographer Alexander Vinogradov for his first-ever, step-by-step mastery series. You'll have a front-row seat in Alexander's studio, where you'll learn the exact techniques he uses, to bring out the nuances of beauty and life in his subjects.
Then, you'll sit down with him at his workstation, where he'll take you through his step-by-step workflow... the very same workflow which produces the unique, timeless photos that have earned him so many awards and accolades. With over three hours of training, spread across two classes, you will master the art of the perfect portrait.
IT BEGINS WITH A STORY.
THE RENAISSANCE MASTERS HAD IT RIGHT.
The linear perspective. The subtle interplay of shadow and light. The incredible attention to detail, made possible for the first time with the discovery of oil-based paints. And perhaps most importantly – the stories captured in the eyes and expressions of the subjects.

Renaissance portraiture cast the mold for everything we know about the artistic representation of the human face. So it should be no surprise that artist Alexander Vinogradov has studied it deeply, and made it a primary source of inspiration.

THE PERFECT PORTRAIT
Says Vinogradov...
There has to be something unique, something special - some kind of sadness they're afraid to admit, some inner wilderness they want to explore — something that will hook you and draw you into their eyes."
"The mystery in DaVinci's Mona Lisa... the longing of Raphael's Castiglione... the arrogance of Parmigianino's Portrait of a Young Lady... these artists could capture the deepest reaches of the souls of their subjects, and in doing so, reveal the humanity that connects us all."
"To me, the perfect portrait is not merely about light, color or perspective. The perfect portrait is a mirror for the emotions that live inside of all of us, and that's what I strive to capture, every time I pick up my camera."

Start in the studio
Vinogradov's unique approach to portraits begins in before he picks up his camera. And he'll start by teaching you how to quickly, and authentically, connect with your models.
"Every subject needs to feel comfortable in front of the camera. And more importantly, they need to feel comfortable with the photographer.  In order to achieve that, you must quickly gain their trust and become a friend — a friend with whom they feel comfortable sharing their deepest secrets."
"I have taught myself to be open-minded, understanding, and respectful. I truly must value and respect the model in front of me regardless of their religion, beliefs, shape, or skin color. I know that I must look deeper if I'm to touch the essence of their humanity."
Moving on, you'll watch as Vinogradov reveals his lighting setups — both natural, and studio. These setups are the foundation of his trademark shots, and you'll learn exactly how to implement them for yourself.

Become a master of the shot.
"When I was learning portrait photography, there were two big technical sticking points - framing, and lighting. So I wanted to make sure that I covered those exact subjects, with a lot of detail."
"Starting with framing, I'll show you exactly how to position the model. I like to shoot as close as possible to fill up the frame... without getting so close that the model feels her space being invaded!"
"Then with lighting, I'm going to give you my exact setups - down to specific lighting diagrams - so whether you're shooting with natural light, or strobes, you'll know how to achieve that beautiful, subtle, painterly depth."

Continue in the VIRTUAL DARKROOM.
"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication." If those words mean anything to you, then you'll indulge in Vinogradov's utterly simple, yet profoundly sophisticated, processing workflow.
"I strongly believe that retouching should be very natural. In fact, the perfect retouch is the one that appears almost invisible."
Your post-processing journey with Vinogradov will take you through both CaptureOne, and Photoshop. You'll learn the subtleties and intricacies of his award-winning workflow. And as a result, you'll spend more time shooting, and less time processing.
"When students follow my processing advice, their portraits take on a new life, a new realism. My goal is to teach you how to imbue your work with the profundity of the Renaissance masters - without having to spend hours hunched over your computer."

YOUR QUESTIONS...
ANSWERED.
1: WHO IS ALEXANDER VINOGRADOV?
While he would describe himself as a passionate enthusiast, Alexander Vinogradov has quickly become one of Russia's most celebrated portrait photographers. He has now won numerous awards and contests, including The Best of Russia, 35photo.ru, International Photography Awards Discovery of the Year, International Photography Awards Gold, and Sony Photographer of the Year. If you are interested in learning the fine art of the perfect portrait, it would be tough to find a more qualified instructor.
2: DO I NEED TO KNOW RUSSIAN TO FOLLOW ALONG?
No! And since Alexander is most fluent in Russian, the entire masterclass has been overdubbed in English... so you won't miss a beat.
3: WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
If you're only purchasing the Natural Light Class, then even a modern iPhone or Android camera would do. But of course, to get the most out of Alex's training, it's best to have a modern DSLR or Mirrorless camera, with a full-frame sensor, and a few good portrait lenses (such as 50mm, 85mm, 70-200mm, etc.). And to get the most out of the Studio Light course, you'll want at least one flash strobe.
4: DO I NEED CAPTURE ONE? WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE LIGHTROOM?
You can certainly follow along if you don't have a Capture One license, and you'll find it incredibly easy to find workflow analogs in Lightroom. But if you're planning to shoot more portraits, Capture One is truly the gold standard - especially for handling skin tones - and you should download the 30-Day, full-featured trial version to see how you like it.
5: HOW LONG ARE THE COURSES?
Each course comes in just shy of 2 hours. That might seem light, compared to some of the tutorial mini-series sagas which are popular these days... but Vinogradov has managed to be both thorough, and concise, in his instructions. You won't find yourself getting bored, or nodding off - this training is tightly packed, and it's going to make you a far better portrait photographer.
6: HOW DO I ACCESS THE MATERIAL?
Both courses are available in the Masters of Visuals online academy. You can access them anywhere you have an internet connection, and the training videos are hosted on a global CDN... so they'll load quickly and beautifully, whether you're on blazing-fast wifi, or laggy, third-world cellular service.
7: WHICH COURSE SHOULD I BUY?
With the incredible launch discount that we're offering, we'd suggest that you buy both courses! It's a 50% discount from our standard pricing, and it's only available now, for a limited time.
8: WHAT IF I'M TOTALLY NEW TO PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY?
That's absolutely great - you won't have any bad habits standing between you, and the perfect portraits you'll produce after going through Vinogradov's courses.

A STATEMENT
FROM THE ARTIST.
Like almost every beginner, I started my photography journey by photographing everything - friends, travel, landscapes... I was especially interested in landscapes, as I was born in the same town as Daniel Kordan, and was inspired by his work.
But while I enjoyed seeking out beautiful locations, and interesting places, it began to occur to me that each face on earth is a landscape unto itself... a landscape of emotions. It wasn't long before I fell in love with portrait photography, and the unique achievement of helping someone feel seen, for who they truly are.
There's tremendous joy in the art of portraiture, and it's my greatest pleasure to be able to share it with you now. I look forward to seeing you inside the course!
